|
The Framingham Amateur Radio Association (FARA) provides volunteer communications for the Boston Marathon each year, ensuring help is available to runners who needed assistance. FARA operators keeps in direct contact with the Red Cross and ambulance service (AMR) in order to respond to emergencies that were called into FARA net controllers all along the 26-mile course. The marathon is one of many events for which FARA operators volunteer their services. The club also provided communications for the March of Dimes walk in Framingham. FARA ham operators keep a close eye for any trouble spots and have check points along the way for water and restroom breaks, as well as a "sweep" ham following the walkers to make sure all is OK along the route. |
